Merging Art, Music, and History: Xiang Li Art Featured at Mechanics Hall’s Club 321

On October 9, 2025, Xiang Li Art had the honor of being featured at Mechanics Hall’s Club 321 concert series in Worcester, Massachusetts — a one-of-a-kind evening that brings together live music, visual art, and community in one of the most historic and acoustically celebrated halls in America.
A Historic Venue with a Heart for the Arts
Built in 1857 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Mechanics Hall stands as one of the nation’s finest concert halls. Beyond its architectural grandeur, the Hall has long been a place where creativity and culture converge. Managed by the Worcester County Mechanics Association, it continues to champion the arts through concerts, youth programs, and collaborations with local creators.
Inside, the Great Hall radiates old-world beauty — gilded details, soaring ceilings, and world-class acoustics that have hosted some of the most memorable performances in New England. During our visit, I had the chance to explore this breathtaking space before the event and take in the inspiring atmosphere that has nurtured generations of musicians and artists alike.
Club 321: Where Music Meets Art
The evening’s Club 321 program featured singer-songwriter Reed Foehl, whose warm, soulful performance paired beautifully with Xiang Li’s visual storytelling. This concert series transforms Washburn Hall into an intimate, club-like setting, blending live music with curated visual art. Each event highlights a local artist, inviting audiences to experience art in dialogue with sound.
For this showcase, Xiang Li presented a selection of her signature works celebrating Chinese empresses and cultural heritage. These Chinese empress and Guanyin (Chinese Buddha) paintings — intricate portraits rendered in traditional mineral pigments on silk — reflected the same dedication, balance, and emotional depth found in Reed’s music.
A Memorable Collaboration
We were warmly welcomed by Christon Carney, Manager of Education & Outreach, who curated the experience with care and attention to detail, and by Meghan Montaner (pictures below of Meghan wearing one of Xiang Li’s ink dragon scarf, and standing with me holding Xiang Li’s art card), the new Executive Director of Mechanics Hall. Their vision of bringing together local artists and musicians created a meaningful bridge between cultures and generations.
The event invited guests not only to enjoy the performance but also to pause between songs, connect with the artwork, and engage in conversation. Many visitors shared their appreciation for the fusion of East and West — the serenity of Xiang Li’s empresses and the intimacy of live acoustic music creating a shared emotional space.
Reflections from the Evening
To be part of Mechanics Hall’s programming is an honor — not just for the beauty of the setting, but for the community spirit that drives it. For Xiang Li and me, this event underscored what we’ve always believed: that art thrives when it’s in conversation — with music, with people, with history.
We left inspired by the space, the people we met, and the energy that filled the hall that night. Mechanics Hall stands as a beacon for the arts in Worcester, and we’re grateful to have shared Xiang Li’s work within its storied walls.
