Empress Xiaoyizhuang

Empress Xiaojiesu (1508–1528), a member of the Chen clan, served as the first empress to the Jiajing Emperor in the Ming dynasty. Selected into the palace in 1522, she was appointed empress later that year upon the request of the emperor’s aunt, the Empress Dowager Zhang. However, due to the strained personal relationship between the emperor and his aunt, Empress Xiaojiesu did not find favor with the emperor. In 1528, while pregnant, she suffered a fatal miscarriage caused by the emperor’s rage. Despite her status, the emperor did not allow her to be buried in the imperial mausoleum, a gesture that was not rectified until 1567.

The Longqing Emperor (simplified Chinese: 隆庆帝; traditional Chinese: 隆慶帝; pinyin: Lóngqìng Dì; 4 March 1537 – 5 July 1572), also known by his temple name as the Emperor Muzong of Ming (Chinese: 明穆宗), personal name Zhu Zaiji (朱載坖),[4] art name Shunzhai (舜齋),[5] was the 13th emperor of the Ming dynasty, reigned from 1567 to 1572. He was initially known as the Prince of Yu (裕王) from 1539 to 1567 before he became the emperor. He succeeded his father, the Jiajing Emperor. His era name, “Longqing”, means “great celebration”.
