Empress Xiang

Empress Xiang, born in 1047, was a Chinese empress consort of the Song Dynasty, married to Emperor Shenzong. She became Empress in 1068 and had a daughter, Shuhuai. Following the reign of Emperor Zhezong, she became a key figure during the regency of her adoptive son, Emperor Huizong, starting in 1100. During this period, she faced challenges, including conflicts with the biological mother of Emperor Zhezong, Consort Zhu, and disagreements over imperial titles. Empress Xiang, portrayed as conservative, successfully resisted attempts to remove reformist Cai Jing from government. She stepped down from co-regency on June 1, 1100. Empress Xiang passed away in 1102.
